Gary Sullivan

Bookwriter and Lyricist

 

Gary has a lifelong involvement with the theatre both as a performer, director and co-founder of the International Award Winning Essex Group, with his wife Ann in 1990.  

 

He has written the plays DINNER TO DINNER, REVERSE DISTINCTION, PICNIC FIELD, SPIRIT HEART, and THAT’S WHAT LOVE IS, plus adaptations of Chekov’s UNCLE VANYA and Moliere’s THE IMAGINARY INVALID.  

His first Musical was THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME; a sung through adaptation of Victor Hugo’s Notre Dame de Paris, written with John Trent Wallace

He is also the Book Writer and Lyricist of the musical DESTINY, an adaptation of Shelly’s Frankenstein combined with Jekyll and Hyde, written with Chris Hatt, and SUNDAE SUNDAE, CATASTROPHE CREEK and PIRATES OF CONTRADICTION with Kevin Bashford.

Current writing projects include VENICIA, a new musical adapted from his play, SPIRIT HEART

 

As a performer he has appeared in over 140 different stage productions varying from Music Hall to Opera, playing a range of diverse characters in some of the world’s best loved plays and musicals.  

 

In 1992 he launched StageAbility Stage School in Essex and has since developed a unique drama teaching process which is now used universally throughout the network of schools he runs alongside Ann.  

 

He is an Associate Director of The Essex Group where he has directed and produced over 90 musicals, including the amateur world premieres of John Caird’s THE BEGGARS OPERA, and the original sung through version of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME in 1993 with John Trent Wallace and DESTINY with Chris Hatt at the Queens Theatre, Hornchurch.  Under his direction, the Essex Group and StageAbility’s Actor’s School are the collective recipients of 48 National and International Awards which have covered all  production and performance spheres.
